How to file your Kane County appeal

  1. 1

    Find your township's deadline

Kane County sets each township's deadline when its assessments are published in the local newspaper. The full list is on the county's filing deadlines page.

  2. 2

    Talk to your township assessor

Questions about your valuation go to your township assessor first — the Board of Review can only act after publication.

  3. 3

    Prepare your evidence

For an overvaluation complaint, gather recent comparable sales. The Board's 2026 rules require disclosure of any recent sale of your property.

  4. 4

File with the Board of Review

File your complaint with the Kane County Board of Review at 719 S. Batavia Ave, Building C, Geneva before your township's deadline. Mailed complaints count as filed on the postmark date.

  5. 5

    Attend the hearing

The Board notifies you of your hearing, reviews the evidence, and issues its findings. Further appeal goes to the Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board (PTAB).

Good to know

  • The Board of Review phone is (630) 208-3818.
  • Properties substantially damaged in the July 2–4, 2026 storms may qualify for a disaster-area reassessment — see the county's disaster page.

File with the official Kane County portal
